SCHNECK CEO HONORED FOR RURAL HEALTH LEADERSHIP

Gary. A. Meyer, President/CEO of Schneck Medical Center, has been honored with the 2012 Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA) Leadership Award, which annually recognizes the accomplishments of an individual or organization that has demonstrated an ability to guide and motivate in a direction that contributes to the betterment of rural health in Indiana.

“Gary Meyer is a passionate advocate for rural healthcare. He harnesses energy and knowledge of the community to identify defined areas of need and build effective programs and partnerships,” said Rick Smith, chairman, Schneck Medical Center Board of Trustees “He has led a culture of innovation, improvement, and proactive collaboration. Through his leadership and vision, Schneck Medical Center has grown into one of the largest and most respected healthcare providers in the region—for all those it serves.”

Meyer understands access to health services is vital in rural communities. Through his strong leadership and Patient First philosophy, he has enabled Schneck to build stronger relations with its underserved communities. Reaching beyond its main campus, Schneck operate three rural health clinics in North Vernon, Scottsburg, and Salem, Indiana. This network of coordinated care is vital for the rural populations in these communities, where residents face a lack of healthcare services.

Under Meyer’s direction, Schneck has transformed into a technology-savvy healthcare facility with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including a fully integrated electronic medical records system, all-digital radiology suites, home health telemedicine, and the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System.

Schneck has a rich heritage dating back to 1911. Today, Schneck is the only organization in Indiana to be honored with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. It is among the six-percent of hospitals nationwide that have achieved Magnet status. It was also recently named as one of the nation’s Top 100 Great Hospitals and Meyer was named as one of the nation’s Top 100 Leaders of Hospitals. Schneck has also been named one of the Top 25 Hospitals to Work for in the nation.
