OUTSTANDING SCHNECK NURSES HONORED
May 5, 2010
Schneck Medical Center honored three extraordinary nurses during its Nursing Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, May 5. The nurses were honored for their dedication and commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
"As an organization that strives to offer the best possible patient care, it is incumbent on us to recognize those nurses who exemplify excellence in the different aspects of nursing practice," said Vicki Johnson, RN, MSN, NE-BC,CSSBB Vice President of Nursing Services. “We have many highly qualified and committed nurses working at Schneck so it is wonderful that staff are able to reward their peers with these recognitions.”
Nursing excellence nominations were sought from across the hospital. The nurses were selected based on their demonstrated excellence in knowledge and skill; promotion of nursing practice through quality outcomes, education and research; the ability to teach and mentor peers and be influential in bringing positive change to the organization.
Chosen for the 2010 Nurse of the Year was Tyler Wessel, RN, a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Tyler’s assessment and critical thinking skills are superior. He has established excellent relationships throughout the hospital with all members of the healthcare team. He is a wonderful role model and a very deserving and excellent recipient of the Nurse of the Year award.
Cathy Wichman, RN, was honored as Nurse Leader of the Year, and for the second year in a row, Marti Stuckwisch, LPN, was honored as LPN of the Year.
"These nurses have made extraordinary contributions to their patients, their colleagues and their nursing profession," Johnson said. “Our nurses are hard working and dedicated to their patients and we know without their compassion, Schneck Medical Center would not be as successful as we are. We honor and thank them.”
