SCHNECK MEDICAL CENTER OPENS NEW STORE AIMED AT KEEPING KIDS SAFE
June 23, 2010
Schneck Partners with Riley Hospital to Open Hospital-based Store
Accidental injury is the leading cause of death in children ages 14 and under. Most of these injuries can be easily prevented through education and the proper use of child safety equipment. That’s why Schneck Medical Center announced today it has partnered with Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis to open a hospital-based safety store.
"Every child is at risk, and at greater risk than you realize," said Peggy Findley, Director of Women’s Services. “At Schneck, we believe that every child deserves a chance to grow up to lead a safe and healthy life. That’s why the Riley Safety Store is here—to serve the needs of all children.”
The Riley Safety Store at Schneck offers low-cost injury prevention products for all children, including children with healthcare needs or disabilities. Some products available include safety gates, cabinet locks, tub spout covers, window blind cord wraps, and appliance locks. The store provides an environment where parents feel comfortable to shop, learn, and ask questions about their child’s safety.
Trained child advocates who help families determine their safety needs and select appropriate products staff the store. Staff are ready to answer any questions you may have about what you can do to prevent child injuries.
Located in the Visitor’s Lobby of the medical center, Schneck’s Riley Safety Store will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening event on Tuesday, July 6 at 1:30 p.m. Vouchers for a free child identification kit with a $5 purchase will be available at the event.
The Riley Safety Store will be open weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Find out more at www.schneckmed.org/safetystore or by calling 812-522-0420.
