Treating you as an individual

At the Pain Center, our staff will approach your case individually and objectively. The causes of your pain will be evaluated thoroughly and a treatment program developed for your individual needs. Your program will be geared toward maximizing your potential and increasing your functional capabilities.

Providing your care in a team-based environment

Thanks to the clinical support of a full-service hospital, patients receive services and treatment from a multi-disciplinary team of pain care professionals. Working together, our staff provides an exceptional range of skills, training, experience, and knowledge.

Start by talking with your doctor
Since the Pain Center works primarily from referrals, your pain condition should first be brought to the attention of your regular physician. Your physician can then determine if you should be referred to the Pain Center.

We'll give you a thorough evaluation

If your physician refers you to the Pain Center, you will receive an initial evaluation by a medical specialist. This evaluation will consist of a review of available medical records, a history and physical, and a detailed report of finds, including diagnosis and proposed treatment plan. Patients needing further diagnostic studies for complaints of pain may receive additional diagnostic services, such as X-rays, CTs, and MRIs.

Then we'll design a treatment plan especially for you

After your initial evaluation, a treatment program will be developed just for you. The treatment will be directed at relieving your pain, teaching you how to manage pain, and increasing your ability to work and carry out a normal lifestyle. The Pain Center uses a variety of methods to accomplish these goals.

Rest assured, despite the nature, cause, or severity of your pain, the Pain Center will provide you with a superior range of programs and clinical options.

What you need for your first visit

On your first visit, please bring any X-rays, MRI, CT, or films relating to your pain condition.

Also, please bring a list of all the medications you are taking, including the name, dosages, milligrams, and length of time you have been taking them.

Please bring a similar list of the medications you have taken within the past year, including the effectiveness of each medication and why you stopped taking them. Any drug allergies or sensitivities you have should be noted prominently.

Your physician's office should be able to assist you in obtaining these films and records.

Making your appointments

The Pain Center services are available by appointment only. This gives the staff an opportunity to allocate enough time to each individual patient, thus maximizing treatment. Please call for appointment hours. If you cannot keep a scheduled appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.

When you arrive at the hospital for your appointment
Register as an outpatient on the first floor at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment. You will then be directed to the Pain Center.

Your appointment will last about an hour. A relative or friend may accompany you. If an invasive procedure, such as an injection, is to be performed, you will be encouraged to bring a licensed driver with you.

No invasive procedure will be performed without your written, informed consent. Should you decide to refuse a treatment recommendation, or to delay treatment for any reason, our staff will respect that decision.

If you have any questions for the nurse or doctor, please phone 812.524.4253 or toll-free 800.234.9222, ext. 253. Your call will be returned between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
