Surgical Weight Loss
Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence
Schneck's Surgical Weight Loss Program is a designated American Society for Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation. This designation is only given to bariatric surgery centers which demonstrate high quality, low complication rates and outstanding outcomes for large volumes of patients. A center of excellence designation recognizes a practice for patient safety and advocacy, which provides continuous improvement of bariatric surgery.
Can bariatric surgery improve your quality of life?
It's a question you'll need to consider carefully. Bariatric surgery has helped thousands of people lose significant amounts of weight. Laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve, and duodenal switch procedures of the type we offer have been proven to help patients lose up to 70% of excess weight as early as 12 months after surgery.
The wide-ranging benefits can be striking. Patients can expect that serious medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol levels may dramatically improve or be eliminated. Patients also gain a feeling of empowerment and well-being by taking control of their health. Yet surgery should only be chosen after other weight loss options are exhausted. Here at the Schneck Surgical Weight Loss Center, we hold a series of free seminars to address the benefits and risks of weight loss surgery. If you’re considering a bariatric procedure, please call (812) 523-5230 for more information.
The right team, right here.
If you decide that bariatric surgery is the right option for you, we have a comprehensive team in place to help you achieve your goals. The surgical team is led by Robert G. Cooper, MD, FACS. A surgeon with more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Cooper has developed advanced skills in laparoscopic surgery and is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. He also offers minimally invasive procedures using the daVinci Surgical System.
Dr. Cooper is complemented by a multi-disciplinary team of weight-loss specialists, including experts in nutritional guidance and behavioral health. Our nurse practitioner, Cathy Hildebrand, works closely with Dr. Cooper and your family doctor to make sure you receive the best of care before and after surgery. We also have a bariatric patient support group available on-site. The moderator of this group is Sherri Forgey, a nurse who had the surgery in 2002.
