SCHNECK’S PATIENT & FAMILY ADVISORY COUNCIL IS ENSURING THE PATIENT’S VOICE IS HEARD
May 23, 2012
Schneck Medical Center is leading the national trend of engaging patients and families by putting them at the center of care. The Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) is a unique partnership established in 2010 to enhance the patient and family experience by providing a voice in shaping the delivery of healthcare at Schneck.
“Our Patient & Family Advisory Council serves as the collective voices of our patients and their families,” said Shery Tiemeyer, Director of Patient Services at Schneck and chair of the council. “We seek the viewpoints of patients and families directly into the planning, delivery, and evaluation of healthcare. The goal is to achieve the best outcomes for patients through a closer, more mutual, shared relationship between the healthcare professionals and patient and families.”
The PFAC consists of patients, their family members, and staff liaisons, who work together to ensure the next patient’s or family member’s journey is a positive experience. The group represents a diverse population of age, gender and cultural backgrounds. Together, they listen, communicate, plan, and develop responsive services.
“It is implicit in our Patient First philosophy that our work, our care, and our decisions be guided by the needs of our patients. But to truly be guided by the needs of our patients, we must first listen to them,” added Tiemeyer.
