Schneck Named One of Top 25 Hospitals to Work For in the Nation
June 7, 2012
Of the nearly 6,000 hospitals in the nation, Schneck Medical Center has been named one of the Top 25 Hospitals to Work For by HealthExecNews. Schneck was the only hospital in Indiana to be named to the list which was compiled based on elements such as opportunities for professional development, benefits, compensation, activities, and employee satisfaction.
HealthExec lauded Schneck for its programs dedicated to workplace improvement. “Right from the start, this organization makes sure that its employees are the right fit for the position and culture at Schneck Medical Center.”
Those programs specifically highlighted included “Hiring for Excellence”, involving peer interviewing and employee input for the selection of new staff members, and the “Grow Our Own” program, which offers high school and college students a chance to shadow healthcare professionals and work at the medical center during college.
HealthExec also cited Schneck’s recent Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award— for which one of the contributing factors in receiving the honor was its “empowered and involved workforce.”
It also noted:
• Schneck’s Health Career Discovery Program which advises middle and high school students on healthcare careers
• Satisfaction levels reported by Schneck’s RNs for the organization’s leadership development programs have exceeded the benchmark of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators for the past three years, and
• 90% of the hospital’s physicians report they are engaged and aligned with the organization
"We are honored to be named among some of the best healthcare organizations in the country—including The Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins—as a great place to work," says Kathy Covert, Vice President of Human Resources at Schneck. “Our workforce, including employees, physicians, volunteers, and students, dedicate themselves to serving the needs of each other and our communities. Their commitment to our mission ‘To provide quality healthcare to all we serve’ is clearly evident. In recognition of their efforts, we celebrate this accomplishment as one of the nation’s Top 25 Hospitals to Work For.”
