SCHNECK NOW OFFERING ADVANCED CARDIAC IMAGING
March 5, 2010
Seymour, Ind.—Schneck Medical Center proudly announces that it now offers locally the latest and most promising non-invasive heart imaging technology to its patients, closer to where they live. Cardiac CTA, or Cardiac Computed Tomography Angiography, provides dramatically detailed images of your coronary arteries and heart in just minutes, without requiring an invasive cardiac catheterization. Ground-breaking advances in heart imaging technology are now within reach, making possible early and rapid diagnosis of heart disease.
Less invasive and more patient-friendly than catheter angiography, Cardiac CTA provides a complete examination of the heart and coronary arteries in under one hour. These images are similar to those obtained by traditional, invasive, cardiac catheterization, providing remarkable image quality. The Cardiac CTA will accurately define plaque within the coronary arteries, reliably detailing the presence of even mild coronary artery disease (coronary atherosclerosis).
While catheter angiography remains the gold standard for diagnosis of coronary arterial disease and is a necessary prelude to arterial intervention (stent, balloon, etc), it requires hospitalization, placement of a catheter into an artery, and post-procedural recovery. For many patients, Cardiac CTA eliminates the need for invasive coronary angiography and together with a calcium score is highly predictive of patient outcomes.
Following cardiac CT, patients and their physicians can then decide a treatment plan, if needed, including possible medication and/or other cardiac procedures such as stenting or surgery.

ARE YOU AT RISK FOR A HEART ATTACK?
High blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, family history of heart disease, diabetes, cigarette smoking, overweight or obese, lack of exercise…the major factors for coronary artery disease. Among women, cardiovascular disease claims more lives than the next 14 causes of death combined. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men.
Early detection and treatment of heart disease is important and now there is something simple you can do…
Schneck Medical Center is pleased to announce the Cardiac Calcium CT Scan, a painless, safe, and accurate 10-minute test that can tell whether you are at risk for a heart attack. This calcium scoring test evaluates and measures the calcium build-up in your coronary arteries. Overtime, progression of plaque build-up can narrow the arteries or even close off blood flow to the heart.
Find out how you can take charge with this state-of-the-art procedure that involves no injections, treadmills or other preparations such as fasting. The Cardiac Calcium CT Scan is performed in people who are over the age of 40. The cost of this test is only $100 (not covered by insurance) and does not require a physician’s order.
