What is a respiratory therapist?
Therapists treat people with breathing or cardiac problems. Patients can include premature infants with under-developed lungs or an elderly person with a chronic lung disease.

What types of medical treatments are respiratory therapists involved with?  
There are a variety of treatments performed by therapists: 
  • Ventilator care and management
  • Assistive Breathing Devices (BIPAP/CPAP/Trachs)
  • Breathing treatments
  • Emergency Team duties including CPR (CODES)
  • Critical and diagnostic blood draws
  • Outpatient Testing (Spirometry/Bronchoscopy)
  • Sleep Studies
What type of education is required?
Typically the education required is a two year program. In some cases, the amount of classes required is reduced for adults who already have college degrees. There are several colleges that offer programs in respiratory therapy. Information will be provided at the event.

Who can attend the open house?
Anyone 12 and above is welcome to attend. This is an open house, so arrive when it is convenient for you, between 3 and 7 p.m.
