# High-risk Pregnancy

While all pregnancies have risks, a high-risk pregnancy is a pregnancy that may have complications due to age, pre-existing conditions, or certain lifestyle factors. However, just because a pregnancy is classified as high-risk does not mean that the mother or baby will have problems. A provider may just monitor the pregnancy more closely and provide special recommendations to ensure a healthy and safe delivery.

Specific factors that may classify pregnancy as high-risk include auto-immune diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, number of babies, HIV, drug use, smoking, mothers over 35 or under 17, and gestational diabetes.
