Physical Therapy for COVID-19 Recovery

Schneck physical and occupational therapists have been working with patients recovering from COVID-19.

Here are some suggested activities and generalized exercises to do at home as you are recovering from COVID-19:
 

General activity

  • All meals should be taken in an upright position such as in a chair (not in bed or on the couch).
  • Be up walking 4-6 times per day. Increase the distance/time walking as tolerated.  Use an assistive device if needed for balance/support (cane, walker).
  • Stand (with or without support) for up to 5 minutes every 2 hours.
  • Make sure to focus on breathing deeply during activity - do not hold your breath.

 Specific exercises

  • Start each activity with 10 repetitions if able; perform one time a day.
  • Progress to 20 repetitions and perform each exercise 2-3 times per day as tolerated.
  • If unable to complete all exercises - start with lower extremity exercises in sitting position and then progress to adding in standing exercises.
