Shery Tiemeyer and Janet Myers of Schneck Medical Center Top Nominees for Patient Safety Awards
July 01, 2016
Schneck Medical Center is proud to announce that Shery Tiemeyer, Director of Patient, Volunteer and Nursing Home Services, and Janet Myers, retired Director of Risk and Safety, were two of the top nominees in the Indiana Hospital Association Patient Safety Awards. Shery was one of the top five nominees in the Service and Leadership category, and Janet was one of the top five nominees in the Innovation category.

The annual awards recognize individuals, groups and organizations that have helped bring Indiana closer to the goal of zero patient harms. The award honors commitment and enthusiasm for improving patient safety in hospitals and communities across the state.

Shery was honored for her efforts to reduce readmission rates. “Shery’s leadership and tenacity in efforts to reduce readmission within nursing home communities has resulted in performance outcomes reaching the top decile. Shery leveraged existing partnerships with long-term care facilities to close the gap in the continuum of care for patients, and she has shared her best practices nationally to other organizations.”

Janet was recognized for her work to establish a Just Culture—an environment that delivers safer, better functioning processes to ultimately improve quality of care—and her focus on high reliability and risk reporting at Schneck. “During Janet’s 39 years of service at Schneck Medical Center, she worked to create an environment of trust and encouragement through a focus on Just Culture. Janet’s commitment to patient safety is evident in her work educating staff through patient testimonial videos, active shooter education and the adoption of daily safety huddles.”

“On behalf of Schneck Medical Center, I congratulate Shery and Janet. Their nominations are a credit to their knowledge, expertise, and commitment to our patients,” said Warren Forgey, President/CEO of Schneck Medical Center. ““We are very proud of the work being done here at Schneck. This is a tribute to the organization-wide commitment of our medical staff and our employees to patient safety, clinical quality and patient satisfaction.”
