Schneck is celebrating its volunteers during National Volunteer Week, April 18-24. The volunteer program at Schneck operates with a mission to develop and maintain a program that serves as an extension of staff, supports the mission, vision, values, and goals of the hospital, and enhances the services provided at the medical center.

“This is a time to honor and thank hospital volunteers for their commitment to patient care and their compassion toward patients, staff and the community,” said Amy Cockerham, Volunteer Manager.

Due to the pandemic, Schneck volunteers were not present at Schneck for their own safety and that of patients and staff. Now that the COVID vaccine is available, Schneck is welcoming volunteers back for the first time in nearly a year. “The absence of our volunteers during the pandemic really made us aware of how valuable they are to the organization,” said Cockerham.

Volunteers serve in various areas of the hospital including the gift shop, admitting and information desks, and various hospital departments.  They also transport patients, deliver patient and interdepartmental mail and patient flowers.

“Our volunteers are partners in the patient experience and dedicate their time to offer Schneck patients, visitors, and staff a helping hand wherever needed,” added Cockerham. “Volunteers provide that little extra special touch that allows Schneck to provide an exceptional customer experience.”

“A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our volunteers!  Your commitment to patient care and selfless acts of kindness help us improve patient care every day,” said Eric Fish, MD, President and CEO of Schneck.

Due to the growth at Schneck, the medical center needs more people willing to donate their time. Volunteers work one four-hour shift per week, but can work more if they would like.
