In high school and college, I participated in football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. I also enjoyed playing the piano, trumpet, bass guitar and singing.” ### What hobbies do you enjoy? “I love to play all types of sports, especially basketball and volleyball. I also enjoy playing music and singing.” ### When did you know you wanted to be a physician? “Honestly, it wasn’t until after I had become an RN and started practicing. I was intrigued by medicine and science and quickly realized I wanted more. Initially, I started in family medicine and my internship year was an amazing experience that gave me great insight into the depth and breadth of medicine. Through performing multiple procedures such as cesarean sections, I realized that my passion was surgery. I’m especially good with my hands and under pressure, so surgery was an excellent fit. I was then accepted into surgical training in Indianapolis and began my journey.” ### What do you like most about practicing medicine? “I enjoy being able to play a small part in the lives of others. I’ve been blessed with the ability to use my hands as a vessel of healing. There are few things better in life than telling a patient’s loved ones that a surgery was successful. Just knowing I was able to touch their lives makes the sacrifice worth it.” ### What is your most memorable patient story? “I had to operate on a young person for a very rare, difficult to diagnose condition. The patient was dying, and in the surgery suite we transfused a total of about 40 units of blood. The surgery was very complex, but I was able to stop the bleeding and successfully complete the operation. The patient survived with a 100% recovery. The smile that was on the patient’s face when we met in my office a month later reminded me of why we do what we do.” ### What attracted you to Schneck Medical Center? “I was amazed at the level of camaraderie among the staff and the dedication that the hospital has to high quality care. I want to be a part of Schneck because this is a place where I would take my loved ones, without hesitation.
