She is board certified in orthopedic surgery by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. Dr. Mikles enjoys running and has participated in several marathons (including the Boston Marathon in 2011). She was also an athlete in college, leading her Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville team to two Division II NCAA tournaments. She enjoys baking, Pilates, and traveling. I grew up in Highland, Illinois. In college, I was a four-year letter winner and two-time Division II NCAA Tournament participant in basketball at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. ### What hobbies do you enjoy? I enjoy playing and watching all types of sports. In fact, I ran the Boston Marathon in 2011. And, my favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals. My husband Allen proposed to me at Busch Stadium the day after the Cardinals won the 2011 World Series! ### What is the one place you would most like to visit? Tahiti! ### When did you know you wanted to be a physician? I broke my wrist playing high school basketball. My orthopedic surgeon was the team doctor for the St. Louis Blues and I knew then that I wanted to take care of athletes too. ### What is your favorite memory from medical school? My favorite memory was a mission trip to Guatemala. The people were so appreciative of what we could do for them. I also enjoyed playing basketball with the young kids when we were done for the day. ### What do you most like about practicing medicine? I achieved my dream of taking care of injured athletes and helping others. ### Why do you enjoy practicing at Schneck Medical Center? I really enjoy the physicians and medical staff. Everyone is friendly and a lot of fun.
