He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine. During Dr. Lamb’s residency, he earned the distinction of Outstanding Med-Peds Resident. The honor recognizes a resident physician whose combination of clinical excellence, leadership skills, commitment to the residency program, and contributions to medical education sets them apart from others. Dr. Lamb is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Check out the Q & A session below to learn more about Dr. Lamb. ### Where did you grow up? I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. I played baseball and football and ran track in high school. In college, I was in Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. ### Please tell us about your family. My wife Amy is a former preschool teacher and a semi-professional photographer. We have a young son Josiah who can be a handful! ### Where would you most like to visit? I'd love to go snowboarding on the Swiss Alps one day! ### When did you know you wanted to be a physician? I have always had an inclination towards science and biology, but it took me awhile to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with my life. In high school, the majority of my friends were going the "pre-med" route, so I decided to head down that path, too, so that I would be in the same classes as my friends. The ironic thing is that most of them ended up switching to a different career path, but I fell more and more in love with medicine the further I got along in my training. ### What do you like most about practicing medicine? I love being able to come home each day and feel like I truly made a difference in people's lives. ### What is one of your most memorable patient stories? During my pediatric cardiology rotation, I had the privilege of taking care of a delightful adult patient with congenital heart disease who was awaiting a heart transplant. He was, fortunately, doing very well medically, and his main complaint was boredom. It is very hard to find ways to spend your time when you are 40-year-old man confined in a children's hospital for two months. I discovered that he enjoyed playing pool. The "Child Life Zone" on the first floor of Riley Hospital has a pool table; however since he was on a continuous infusion of medication, he needed to be accompanied by a physician to leave the cardiac unit. So, every night I was on call and I had a bit of down time, I would take him to the "Child Life Zone" and play a few games of pool. The joy it brought to this kind man made those long nights worth every sleepless moment. Best of all, he ended up getting a new heart and is doing fantastic! ### Why did you decide to join Schneck Medical Center? As part of my Medical-Pediatrics residency at IU, I took an elective last summer at Schneck and I got to spend a month working with the Hospitalist group. What attracted me most to work at Schneck was the level of camaraderie and the family-friendly atmosphere I encountered during that month. I got the sense that working here is more than just a job.
