  ### Where did you grow up?

I spent I my childhood in Madison, Indiana and moved to Jasper, Indiana for high school. My grandparents and parents were born in Seymour, however. My ancestors moved to Seymour from Germany in 1846.

### Please tell us about your family.

My wife Stacey and I have 3 boys. She serves on a couple of boards in town and is heavily involved in community theatre. In addition to running the household and managing our boys, she teaches college courses at IVY Tech. My sister, Alissa, also lives in Seymour and works at Schneck as a surgical technician. She often assists me in surgery. My parents also live in the area and have fun spending time with their grandchildren.”

### What hobbies do you enjoy?

I have a rock band with some other doctors and Schneck employees called Bad Medicine. We typically play one show a month. I enjoy training for adventure races with my team “The Lost Boys”. The races include mountain biking, running, and canoeing. I also work out at CrossFit which helps me stay in shape for the races. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy camping, hunting, and fishing.

### Where would you most like to visit?

Germany

### When did you know you wanted to be a physician?

I have always enjoyed working with my hands, repairing cars and building things. When I discovered that I could use those same skills to improve peoples’ lives as an orthopedic surgeon, I was determined to make that a reality.

### What is your favorite medical school memory?

My favorite moments of medical school were hanging out and unwinding with my classmates. The training is very intense and stressful. Having a close group of friends that are going through the same thing is what made it doable.

### What do you like most about practicing medicine?

Starting off in practice, I would have said the challenge of surgery was what I liked the most. However, now that I have been practicing for several years, I get the most enjoyment out of the camaraderie I have with my staff and the relationships I have with my patients. I get a real enjoyment out of ‘fixing’ people and having them come back to the office with smiling faces.

### What is your most memorable patient story?

I once treated a young patient with very bad rheumatoid arthritis. When she came to see me, she was bound to a wheelchair. She was very sad and depressed. When I saw her back after her bilateral knee replacements, she was back on her feet and had a smile on her face. It doesn’t get much better than giving someone their life back.

### What attracted you to Schneck Medical Center?

I have a lot of relatives and family roots in Seymour. That is what initially drew me to the area. After looking into the hospital however, it was clear that Schneck puts patients first and provides an environment where physicians can practice with the latest technology and innovation.
