 ## Do you or someone you know suffer from aching, painful, restless legs?

Schneck Vein Center invites you to restore your legs to their healthy best. Varicose veins are a pain – literally – with swelling and leg cramps, but you don’t need to travel far for innovative vein care.

Normal circulation occurs when blood flows efficiently from the heart to the legs and is complete when normal veins channel blood back to the heart. A disruption in this circulation pattern can lead to varicose and/or spider veins. Signs and symptoms may include unsightly areas on the skin, pain, discomfort, swelling, fatigue or itching. Severe cases can result in skin breakdown and ulceration.

Spider veins may be a sign of larger vein disease or purely cosmetic problem. New techniques and procedures allow treatment of venous disorders on an outpatient basis with little discomfort and outstanding cosmetic results.

  ### What causes varicose veins?

Varicose veins result from abnormal inner walls or abnormal valves in these blood vessels. Blood is carried through arteries from the heart to the rest of the body, and returned from the heart through the body’s veins called the venous system.

Veins have valves that act as one-way flaps, preventing blood from backing up and pooling.

When these one-way valves do not work properly, blood may flow backwards causing the veins to dilate (enlarge) and become varicose. The technical terms for this condition are *venous reflux* or *venous insufficiency*.

While these conditions are not dangerous, they can be unsightly and cause leg cramps, pain, and swelling.

### Our Treatments

After your consultation and ultrasound evaluation at the Schneck Vein Center, our team will recommend the best plan of treatment for your medical or cosmetic needs.

##### Radio Frequency Ablasion

Radio Frequency Ablasion uses radio frequency energy to close the enlarged vein. Using local anesthesia, a small catheter is placed with the aid of ultrasound. The catheter delivers radio frequency engergy to the wall of the vein causing the vein to heat, collapse, and seal shut. Blood flow will be redirected to other, healthier veins within the affected area.

##### Phlebectomy

Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove varicose veins on the surface of the leg. This is done using local anesthesia and through small skin incisions. The incisions are so small, they do not require stitches and are barely visible once healed.

##### Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy uses an injection to collapse varicose and spider veins. While multiple treatments may be needed, sclerotherapy is the most effective treatment to eliminate spider veins

### Will my insurance cover this treatment?

Insurance coverage is an important consideration for most patients. Depending upon the diagnosis and severity of the condition, most insurers offer benefits when medical necessity is established. Schneck participates in most major insurance plans. Every insurance plan is different, but we will be happy to work with you to pre-authorize the therapy you need before you begin treatment for your venous condition.
