# Gallbladder Removal

Gallbladder removal is a surgery performed to remove the gallbladder. It is also known as a cholecystectomy. The gall bladder is a small organ located upper right portion of your abdomen that houses the bile your liver uses to process fats.

It is a surgical procedure that is performed typically to treat gallstones. Gallstones are small deposits of cholesterol or bilirubin that form pebble-like “stones” in your gallbladder. They can cause pain and nausea and if left untreated, may block the bile needed by the liver.

There are a few ways to complete a gall bladder removal including laparoscopic or open surgery. Diagnostics will help a provider know what treatment method is best.
