Welcoming Dr. Marcus Thorne
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in Indianapolis beginning at age eight. I attended Cathedral High School, where I participated in football, wrestling, and track, and was also involved in Model UN, the math team, and several other clubs. I later attended the University of Notre Dame, where I played football for three years, earned a monogram, received the Kanaley Award, was recognized for all-academic honors, and participated in several additional activities.
We'd love to hear about your family.
I am the proud parent of four children—two are Notre Dame graduates, one is a Villanova graduate, and one is currently attending Villanova.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy staying active through a variety of sports, cooking and baking, listening to music, traveling, spending time outdoors, and reading.
Where have you always wanted to visit?
Timbuktu, following the journey of The Odyssey, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, and ultimately seeing all Seven Wonders of the World—both ancient and modern.
When did you know you wanted to be a physician?
I made that decision during college.
What do you like most about practicing medicine?
The tangible aspects of patient care—being able to directly improve someone’s quality of life.
What's one patient experience that truly stood out to you?
Performing a relatively simple surgical intervention that dramatically improved every aspect of a patient’s life, as well as their family’s.
What inspired you to choose Schneck to practice medicine?
Nearly everything—its stability, the quality of providers, the collaborative environment, and a strong focus on work-life balance.
