An electrocardiogram, also referred to as an ECG or EKG, is a procedure that records electrical heart signals. It test is performed to spot heart problems and conditions and get an understanding of the heart’s health.

Electrocardiograms are painless and can be done in a clinic or hospital. The test can detect issues such as arrhythmias, blocked or narrowed arteries, and previously undetected heart attacks. It is also performed to see how heart condition treatments are working.
