Charcot Foot

What is Charcot Foot?

Charcot foot is rare, and is often a complication of diabetes-related neuropathy. Diabetes-related neuropathy is nerve damage that can make you lose feeling in your lower legs and feet. This condition can make it hard to feel pain or notice an injury to the foot. Charcot foot happens when an injury, even a small one, leads to severe complications and deformity of the foot.

If not treated, Charcot foot can lead to a collapse of the joints in the foot, resulting in a “rocker bottom” foot. Toes may also curl under and wounds can become a problem due to the deformity of the foot.

Schneck podiatrists can address your issues and even offer Charcot Reconstruction options to improve your quality of life.
