Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition occurring when there are elevated hormone levels produced by the thyroid. It is also known as an overactive thyroid. This creates a hormone imbalance and causes symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, weight loss despite increased appetite, fatigue, diarrhea, muscle weakness, and an impacted sleep cycle.

Related conditions include Grave’s disease, thyroiditis, and nodules in the thyroid. Treatment for Hyperthyroidism includes medications that block the excess production of hormones, radioactive iodine, and surgery. Left untreated, hyperthyroidism can lead to complications so it is important to speak with your provider if you are experiencing any related symptoms.
