Meet Dr. Micah Fischer

I grew up in Columbus, Indiana. I participated in 4-H for ten years, was a member of Junior Leaders and Junior Fair Board, and co-chair of the Bartholomew Dance Marathon, along with many other extracurriculars during high school.  In college, I was involved in a variety of activities including acting president of Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity and volunteering for the Purdue Dance Marathon.

My father Mark farms and owns a trucking company in Bartholomew County. My mother Jana is a nurse practitioner with Schneck Neurology. I also have a younger brother Max who lives in Seattle an older brother Levi who lives in Columbus, Indiana.

I enjoy cooking, history, music history, dancing, a good mystery novel along with taking my French bulldog for walks or to dog parks. A deep-rooted Fischer family hobby is tractor pulling. I started at the age of six with garden tractors and progressed from there. It is not uncommon to see my family pulling our Massey Ferguson 1155 at Tampico, the Jackson County Fair or many other fairs and festivals around southcentral Indiana.

The United Kingdom.

I think I have always known I wanted to be a physician from childhood. I explored other career options in high school and college before solidifying my decision to dedicate my life to medicine.

Many of my favorite memories from medical school and residency revolve around the strong friendships I have built. From spending days studying, dances, and going to restaurants to celebrate after big exams, to ridiculous moments in the resident workrooms, starting a book club with fellow residents, and exploring the city. There is not just one specific moment, but a constellation of good memories.

Some of the ideas that interest me in medicine are caring for people every day and during vulnerable times, educating patients on their health to make the most informed choices for themselves, and cultivating long-lasting relationships.

While in medical school, I was fortunate to rotate at many different hospitals including Schneck. Schneck is where I made the final decision to pursue being an Internal Medicine-Pediatrics physician. While working with the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics hospitalists, I was exposed to the breadth of knowledge and skill they portrayed. Here at Schneck, I am able to practice throughout the lifespan of a patient in acute settings such as the hospital and ICU along with the outpatient chronic settings.
