Epidural Steroid Injections

What are Epidural Steroid Injections?

Epidural steroid injections, or epidural corticosteroid injections, are strong anti-inflammatory medications used to reduce severe inflammation from a pinched nerve.

Patients suffering from severe back pain caused by a herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and other related conditions could benefit from an epidural steroid injection. We typically recommend three to six injections per year for chronic conditions, while some injections can permanently remove pain depending on the condition at hand.

Injections take up to 30 minutes and you will feel very little as your provider will first inject a local anesthetic to numb the area. Once the treatment site is numb, the medication is injected into the epidural space around the spinal nerves. The treatment should take effect within two to seven days and pain relief can last a few days to several months.

At Schneck, the primary goal of epidural steroid injections is to help you manage chronic pain and live a comfortable, active life. If you are experiencing lower back pain from any of the conditions listed above, get in touch and we will determine the best course of action for you.
