Infertility

Infertility refers to the inability to become pregnant after a year of attempting to conceive. Fertility affects both men and women so the inability to conceive may be a result of either partner. For men, it is typically due to low sperm count, mobility of the sperm, or low testosterone (male hormone). For women, it could be conditions such as endometriosis, thyroid diseases (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism), or blocked fallopian tubes.

Infertility affects an estimated 1 in 3 couples and 1 in 10 women of menstruating age have difficulty conceiving. Aside from medical conditions, lifestyle factors such as smoking, drinking, and drug use could also cause infertility. To diagnose infertility, men and women will undergo a variety of testing measures to understand the exact cause. Once the cause is known, providers are able to recommend potential treatment options.
