I grew up in Brownstown, Indiana. In high school, I played volleyball and basketball, was class president, and in the National Honor Society...I did a lot of everything! I continued to play volleyball at Georgetown College, was active in many service organizations, and served as a youth minister at a local church.

I married Todd Spurgeon, also from Brownstown. We have two sons, Justin and Will. Most of our extended family lives in Jackson County.

My husband and I run together. We love to run races in different places. We’ve particularly enjoyed running several races in Disney World! I also like to read and play the piano. My favorite thing is to spend time with my family.

I decided my junior year in college to attend medical school. I felt that pursuing medicine would allow me to do a lot of things I really enjoyed.

I get the opportunity to help people in some of the hardest times of their lives. The human spirit is resilient. My job is to tap into that spirit and help people find their way through their life struggles. It is a humbling experience. However, when people get better, it is equally amazing to watch who and what they are able to become.

Thus far in my career, I have taken care of many pregnant and post partum women. I love that I get to share in my patient’s joy of a new baby in the family. A lot of my patients bring their babies in for me to meet. It is wonderful to know I have helped mom and baby get a better start in life.

I am aware of what this community has done for my life. Several people went out of their way to encourage and help me become who I am today. It is an honor to come back and try to help take care of the community that has taken such good care of me.
